Though the boys dominated possession, the India Under-17 football team lost 1-2 to Portugal's Vitoria de Setubal U-17 in their first practice match of their exposure trip to Jose Mourinho Training Centre in Troia, Lisbon on Tuesday. This starts a series of matches that the young lads from India are going to play in.
After their first game, the Indian U-17 side will face premier Portuguese clubs in Belenenses, Benfica, Estoril and Sporting Club Portugal. The team will leave the Portuguese shores on 15 May and proceed to France to face Paris Saint-Germain's U-17 Team.
The U-17 coached by Luis Norton de Norton's will be taking part in Lazio Cup along with the series of practice matches in Italy, France and Hungary. This European fixture list may well serve as a boon to Norton's men as they will be exposed to the high quality football practiced and played in Europe.
"I appreciate the efforts of the All India Football Federation in leaving no stone unturned to field the best Indian XI in the World Cup," de Matos said. "The efforts are allowing me to see more players and it's nice to see the Clubs, the League and the AIFF joining hands together for the development of Indian Football," said the Portuguese.
