Manchester United have reportedly submitted a world
record bid of €190 million for Barcelona forward Neymar
according to Brazilian media outlet Globo.
The report states that while Neymar is happy at
Barcelona, the Catalans could be convinced to allow him
to leave for such a staggering fee given the effect the
transfer embargo FIFA placed upon them has had on
their squad.
Man United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was
in Barcelona last week to discuss the possibility of
landing the Brazilian, according to the Guardian.
It must also be noted, however, that Neymar stands to
gain from the attention he is receiving as his current
contract expires in 2018, meaning he's in line for a new
one that will likely include a sizable pay bump based on
his stellar form over the past couple of seasons.
Globo claim that Barcelona are intrigued by the prospect
of making so much money off of one player and that the
La Liga champions could put the discussion away for
the time being to revisit it next year as there is interest
from the player as well.
A €190 million move would smash the current world
record fee that took Gareth Bale to Real Madrid in 2013
at €100 million.
It would also be a massive statement of intent from
United as they seek to win the Premier League title after
two lean years followin Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement
but given the way they were used in the case of Sergio
Ramos, the club will need to be wary of Neymar's
intentions.
